Music-based play and socialising for pre-school aged children and their families

Music Time creates an engaging play and learning environment for pre-school aged children, and a space for connection and socialisation between parents.

Pre-school aged children get to play using music, song, and games to build confidence, develop motor skills, and socialise with similar aged children. Parents and caregivers participate alongside their children to strengthen bonds, and have opportunity to socialise with and support other carers of young children.

Music Time might be for you if…

  • You are the parent or caregiver of a pre-school aged child.

  • You and your child love music, song, dance, and games.

  • You want activities to help nurture your child’s development and growth.

  • You are looking for opportunities to connect with other parents and caregivers of young children.

About Music Time

The Music Time program consists of play time for children involving a wide range of activities including music, dance, other kinaesthetic activity, storytelling and reading, and video content. During this program, parents and caregivers are encouraged to participate in the activities alongside their children, creating an intergenerational activity group where age and ability are not barriers to participation. Adult participation in these activities with their children creates positive experiences and reinforces the relationship between carers and children.

Following the program, children and carers are offered a healthy morning tea and a chance for unstructured play and socialisation. This time is particularly valuable for carers, who have an opportunity to socialise with peers and to share their joys and struggles, and receive and offer support to one another in a network of mutual support.

Objectives

  • To create connections with and between local parents and caregivers to promote a sense of belonging.

  • To curate a space where families don’t fall through the gaps.

  • To provide a network to connect young families to support resources, information, and encouragement.

  • To provide a safe place for new parents and carers to share joys and difficulties they may be experiencing.

  • To provide intergenerational mentoring and spiritual support.
