Breathe, Build, Belong

Transitional accommodation for people at risk of homelessness or experiencing domestic violence

Bounce Back exists to provide a safe place for parents and children to safely stop and rest (breathe), to develop skills and confidence (build), and form strong connections with their local community (belong).

More than just a place to stay, Bounce Back’s aim is that you’ll never need supported housing again.
Bayview Care maintains 3 self-contained units in Rye for medium-term transitional accommodation with shared community garden and outdoor recreation spaces.

Bounce Back might be for you if…

  • You don’t have a place for you or your kids to stay.

  • You have experienced domestic violence and it isn’t safe to stay at home.

  • You need some support to get back to work or study.

  • You need to develop a positive rental history.

  • You need a safe place to work out what’s next for you and your kids.

About Bounce Back

Bounce Back aims to address the chronic shortage of affordable housing on the Mornington Peninsula and the growing need for safe places for families at risk of domestic violence and/or homelessness. We acknowledge that it takes time to recover from trauma. Bounce Back aims to provide that time.

Affordable accommodation on the Mornington Peninsula is in crisis, with only 0.7% rental availability and median rental prices of $520 per week in 2022. This makes accessing crisis accommodation, and transitioning out into ongoing private rentals, next to impossible for many vulnerable families. Our aim is to provide longer-term affordable housing to families at risk of homelessness to ensure that they can stay on the Mornington Peninsula.

We recognise that the Mornington Peninsula is stronger with healthy families, and families are stronger in a healthy community. In addition to the provision of housing, participants in the program are offered wrap-around services including mentoring and skill development. Participants in Bounce Back work toward an improved rental history to receive a rental reference so that they can move on to private rental and independence.

Bounce Back is helping to end cycles of homelessness on the Southern Mornington Peninsula through links with the community, healthy relationships, and developing life skills and a stronger rental history.

Objectives

  • Provide an environment where women, children, and families have the opportunity to breathe (rest), build (skills and confidence), and belong (stronger relationships).
    • Provide safe accommodation for women and children who require practical, financial, emotional, and spiritual support to redirect life in a healthier direction.

  • Provide training, mentoring, and hands-on skill development to support the individual, child, and the family unit, and improve their opportunities for future success and security.

  • Provide safe links back into the community, recognising that community is stronger with healthy families and families are stronger in healthy community.

  • To work transparently with, and be guided by, existing services involved in the family’s lives, promoting consistency and continuity for the family or individual.
